DWDD: OPERATIONAL UPDATES | JTF Marawi marks significant success

CAMP RANAO, Marawi City (DWDD) – As of August 28, 2017 or 98 days since the start of the siege in Marawi, the government has marked significant success in its campaign to free the city from the grasp of the Daesh-inspired Maute Group.

According to Joint task Force Marawi, since August 27, they have recorded 603 terrorist killed and 665 firearms recovered from the group.



Yesterday, soldiers were able to recover 32 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and Unexploded Ordnance or a total of 1,270 IEDS and UXOs from different structures in the Main Battle Area.



Other significant events for the past week:

– retaking of the Islamic Center
– retaking of St Mary’s Cathedral
– retaking of the Lanao Del Sur Police Provincial Office
– the holding of a Congregational Prayer help, done for the first time
– and, 10 Maute members killed after attempting to enter the Main Battle Area.

Meanwhile, there were no change in the number of civilians killed, 45, and number of civilians rescued at 1,728, while the number of government casualties is now at 130 killed in action. AES
