DWDD: SECURED | AFP in control of territories in the WPS

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Aug 29): SECURED  |  AFP in control of territories in the WPS

COL JESUS VILLAMOR AIR BASE, Pasay City (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has troops securing all nine (9) island, reefs, and atolls in the Kalayaan Island Group.

According to AFP Chief of Staff Gen Eduardo Ano, despite the events transpiring n Marawi, the AFP is still fulfilling its mandate of protecting our territory, especially in the West Philippine Sea.

Recently, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano alleged that a Chinese flag was seen planted on a sandy cay, seven nautical miles off Kota Island. A sign, he said, that China’s incursion into our territory continues despite warmer relations between the two country..

Gen Ano explained that the “alleged Chinese flag” was just an indigenous pole with a plastic / sack attached to it and was probably placed there as a guide for seafarers. He also made it clear that it was not the Philippines who placed it there, but they were the one who removed it.

Currently, the priority of the government is to refurbish and renovate our facilities on Pagasa Island and other territories we currently occupying in the KIG, which is well within the Declaration of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. What is not allowed by the code is the occupation of additional island or atolls, Ano added. AES / ALS
