From the Philippine information Agency (Jul 13): AFP to public: Report suspicious checkpoints
An official of the 10th Infantry Division called on the public during the Makigsayod sa Kinaiyahan, a Thursday edition of the Serbisyo Para sa Masa radio program over DXRD Sonshine Radio, to report suspicious checkpoints.
It can be recalled that on July 11, PO1 Alfredo Pasabeca was abducted in a checkpoint in Compostela town, Compostela Valley province manned by suspected members of the New People’s Army, who wearing fatigue uniforms disguising themselves as members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Capt Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of the 10th ID, said that the public must not panic when they are being inspected in a checkpoint that is manned by the New People’s Army; however, they should report it to the authorities after they pass through the checkpoint.
Capt Batchar emphasized the government checkpoints have signages that are clear and are printed in a tarpaulin and manned by snappy uniformed personnel with radio facilities.
Batchar added that the checkpoints also have marked vehicle or are located near a detachment identified as patrol base of the military and the police.
