From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 28): Police colonel survives ambush
A police superintendent and his men survived a daylight ambush in Balabagan, Lanao del Sur Tuesday.
Supt. Rayan Ador, director for Regional Highway Patrol Unit in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RPHU-ARMM), escaped unscathed in the 4 p.m. ambush in Barangay Diamaro, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur.
Senior Police Officer 4 Taha Enok said a convoy of vehicles loaded with high patrol personnel was heading for Cotabato City after conducting checkpoints in Malabang, Lanao del Sur.
Enok said several vehicles and motorbikes were impounded for lack of registration documents.
The RHPU vehicles were peppered with bullets from about 10 gunmen.
Enok believed the suspects could be owners or supporters of owners of vehicles believed to be carnapped and impounded during the RHPU operation in Malabang.
Four motorcyles and two SUVs were impounded for suspicion these were carnapped or “hot” vehicles.
Elements of Malabang Municipal Police Office responded but the suspects have fled the crime scene.
Balabagan is about 50 kilometers southwest of Marawi City where government forces are fighting Islamic militants.
