The military condemns the attack of alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on Barangay Sobrecary in Caraga Davao Oriental that led to the death of a 10-year old child.
Lieutenant Col. Jake Obligado, commander of the 67th Infantry Battalion, said the group that raided a house of a victim was identified as Pulabg Bagani Command (PBC) 8 led by alias Xander.
“I would like to give emphasis that a 10-year old kid died because of the indiscriminate firing of the New People’s Army. This is a grave violation of the human rights of Justine Padao, ” 67th IB Commander Lt. Col. Jake Obligado said.
On Monday, 12 armed men attacked the house of Emmanuel Matical, and Leo Padao, for allegedly acting as informants of the military.
The group burned the house of Padao and multiple shots were also fired. A bullet hit the head of the victim killing him on the spot.
The military condemns the death of Justine Padao, and says it is a violation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
“This just shows that the New People’s Army is no longer that idealistic, no longer that respectful of human rights. No longer that conscious of the rule of law because as a result of the brutal action, the murderous action and animalistic action of the New People’s Army, a 10-year old kid was killed brutally,” Obligado said.
Authorities are now preparing the charges they will file against the NPA members responsible for the incident.
“Actually, the council of the Davao Oriental the Peace and Order Council the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has issued already a joint statement condemning the act of the New People’s Army,” Obligado added.
