From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 20): Aklan police units urged to remain on terror alert
Police units in 17 towns in Aklan as well in Boracay were ordered to remain on full alert status following the recent raid by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on a police station in Iloilo province.
Senior Supt. Lope Manlapaz, acting Aklan police director, said though the province was declared insurgency-free, the incident prompted increase security.
Manlapaz said it was necessary to take precautionary measures.
He said the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) had been coordinating with the members of the Philippine Army to prevent the entry of any rebel group and terrorist in the province.
NPA rebels raided the Maasin Police Station in Iloilo on broad daylight on June 18.
Meanwhile, the Manlapaz stressed the need of cooperation of the public in preventing any terror attacks.
He urged the public to report any suspicious people in their area especially with a number of refugees from the besieged Marawi City coming to the province.
Likewise, as part of its information dissemination campaign, the APPO has already installed signage with faces and identities of the Maute groups in Marawi in different areas in the province, including ports to and from Boracay.
