From the Philippine Information Agency (Feb 2): CHED to open military course
Incoming tertiary students will now have a wide variety of course choices after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) here is planning to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Military Science.
“We are now finalizing the guidelines on how the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) will implement the additional course offering,” said Dr. Honorato Alzate, CHED OIC-regional director.
Alzate said the new course will include three major fields namely, the air force, army and the naval sciences.
“Once the guidelines are finalized, we will be piloting the course in one of the SUCs in the region,” he said.
He said the opening of a military course in SUCs is timely as the administration is pushing for the revival of the mandatory Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program for college students.
Alzate said the ROTC program will be incorporated in soon to be opened military course to ensure that college students who still want to become part of the country’s reserve force can be called upon during times of emergencies.
