2ID officers remain committed to suspension of military operations, stays on red alert

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 2): 2ID officers remain committed to suspension of military operations, stays on red alert

Officers and personnel of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stationed here remain committed to the order of their commander-in-chief President Rodrigo Duterte to observe the unilateral ceasefire and suspension of military operations (SOMO) unless terminated by him, said 2ID spokesperson.

In an interview Thursday, 1Lt. Xy-zon M. Meneses, chief of the 2IDivision Public Affairs Office (DPAO) said the statement of one of the movement’s leader Jorge Madlos is not confirmed yet by the national organization of the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Meneses downplayed Madlos statement whether it is officially recognized, referring to CPP-NDF chief peace negotiator Fidel Agcaioili who had said there have been no orders from their leadership to revoke its unilateral ceasefire thus the ceasefire stays.

”We will continue to heed the call of the people for a just and lasting peace, continue to assist civilian authorities in the delivery of basic services and secure the communities within our areas of responsibility,” Meneses emphasized.

He said that the 2ID military officers here take orders from their commanding general Lieutenant General Ferdinand F. Quidilla of the Southern Luzon Command (SolCom) stationed in Lucena City, Quezon to remain on red alert and vigilant to preempt any threat against lawless armed groups.
