A Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander has denied allegations that his uncle has links to international terror groups, GMA News' Chino Gaston reported Wednesday on "Balitanghali."
MILF's Abdullah Macapaar alias Commander Bravo confirmed his relation with Haji Amir Omar who was arrested in a police raid early on Tuesday. But he said Omar has no links to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
According to Bravo, Omar is a member of the MILF North West Mindanao Front based in Lanao del Norte under his command and not a terrorist.
Authorities said Omar yielded explosives during his arrest.
Amiruddin Usman of the MILF Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) in the Lanao Region backed Macapaar's claim that Omar is not a Maute Group member.
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police possess multiple search warrants against the Maute family for charges linked to illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs.
In Butig, Lanao del Sur, at least a 100 members of the Maute Group are engaged in combat with government soldiers.
At least five Maute members have been reported killed and three soldiers injured in fresh skirmishes in the town, the Balitanghali report said.
