From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 8): 3 ranking generals vying for PA top slot -- Año
Three lieutenant generals are now vying for the old Army post of newly-appointed Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Eduardo Año.
This was disclosed by Año when asked if he has any idea on who his possible replacement as Philippine Army (PA) commander.
"It is still for approval, contenders are three ranking Army lieutenant generals," Año said without giving the identities of the selectees.
The newly-appointed AFP chief is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1983, the same as his predecessor, Gen. Ricardo Visaya.
As this develops, Año said he is not setting a deadline on the focused military operations against the Maute Group, Abu Sayyaf and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
"We'll do our best but I will not set a deadline. Full efforts are ongoing," he said.
"We will continue the focused military operations in those areas. Resources will be pushed forwads to support our troops. Adjustment will be made based on the assessment of the ground commanders," the newly-appointed AFP chief added.
