From the Philippine Information Agency (Dec 8): Award-winning Mindanao docu-film screens at MFF
A documentary film which won a prestigious award in the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea will be screened at the 12th Mindanao Film Festival.
“Crescent Rising” by filmmaker Sheron Dayoc will have three screenings starting today at 6 p.m at Gaisano Mall Cinema 6.
The other screening schedule at the Mindanao Film Festival will be on December 9 at 11 a.m. and on December 13 at 8 p.m. The December 13 screening serves as the culimating activity of the Mindanao Film Festival, a forum will be held during the final screening organized by the film’s producers Anak Mindanao (AMIN) Partylist.
"The documentary follows three stories from Mindanao—a man who denies that the Jabidah Massacre is a lie, rebel fighters who believe that jihad should be a way of life, and a woman caught in the conflict.
It won the BIFF Mecenat Award in the 2016 Busan International Film Festival, which is awarded to the best Asian documentary from Korean and Asian documentaries shown in the Wide Angle Section.
The film premiered in the 2015 QCinema International Film Festival where it won Best Documentary Prize. It is also the Urian Award winner for Best Documentary in 2015.
The Mindanao Film Festival is one of the longest-running regional film festivals in the country. It is organized by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation Inc. (MFTDFI) in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Art (NCCA), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office-XI .
