Cop killed, another wounded in an attack in Zambo Norte town

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 20): Cop killed, another wounded in an attack in Zambo Norte town

Police heightened security alert while investigating the fatal shooting of a policeman and the wounding of his fellow in Sirawai town, this province.

Senior Supt. Edwin Wagan, provincial police director, issued the order after he received report that two policemen were shot around 5:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Sirawai.

Wagan said PO1 Michael Jay Castro expired in the hospital while PO2 Joemar Fuertes was airlifted to a hospital in Zamboanga City.

Castro and Fuertes belong to the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) and were part of the 14-man augmentation force deployed to the municipality of Sirawai.

Wagan said the victims were buying coffee and mosquito repellent coil at a store in downtown Sirawai when repeatedly shot by three unidentified gunmen.

He advised the policemen to be extra cautious while in the performance of their duty.

He believed the attack on two policemen was in retaliation to the death of Sabtal Indal, a suspected big time drug pusher, although they have yet to identify the suspects behind the incident.

Indal was killed in a shootout after he reportedly resisted the policemen during the buy-bust operation last Tuesday, August 16.
