GARBAGE COLLECTORS IN MIDSAYAP, NORTH COTABATO ON SUNDAY NIGHT HAD THE GREATEST "HAUL" IN LIFE THAT COULD HAVE COST THEIR LIVES - AN IMPROVISED BOMB AMONG A PILE OF GARBAGE.

SUPT. TOM TUZON, MIDSAYAP TOWN POLICE CHIEF, SAID ONE OF THE GARBAGE COLLECTORS ON A NIGHT SHIFT ALERTED THE POLICE ABOUT HIS DISCOVERY, A POWERFUL IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE.

HE SAID THE MAN, WHO ASKED NOT TO BE NAMED, FOUND THE IED FASHIONED FROM 81 MM MORTAR IN THE FILE OF GARBAGE IN BARANGAY MALAMOTE, MIDSAYAP, NORTH COTABATO AT 9:00 P.M.

QUOTING GARBAGE GATHERERS, TUZON SAID THEY LAST LOADED SACKS OF GARBAGE NEAR THE TOWN'S OLD TERMINAL AND PROCEEDED TO THE DUMP SITE IN BARANGAY MALAMOTE.

HE SAID THE MAN FOUND SOMETHING HEAVY IN A PLASTIC BAG, CIRCULAR AND HAVE SOME WIRES.

"HE SUSPECTED IT COULD BE A BOMB SO THEY ALERTED THE POLICE," TUZON SAID.

ARMY AND POLICE BOMB EXPERTS CONFIRMED IT WAS AN IED WITH MOBILE PHONE AS TRIGGERING MECHANISM.

"THE IED WAS LIVE AND COULD EXPLODE ANYTIME BEFORE IT WAS FOUND," TUZON ADDED.

TUZON APPEALED TO THE RESIDENTS NOT TO TINKER WITH ANYTHING THEY SUSPECT AS A BOMB. INSTEAD, THEY SHOULD ALERT THE POLICE OR LOCAL OFFICIALS TO AVOID ACCIDENTS.
