Gov't not wavering in commitment to eliminate kidnap-for-ransom problem

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun ): Gov't not wavering in commitment to eliminate kidnap-for-ransom problem

The Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) on Monday announced that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to deal with the kidnap-for-ransom problem.

"Our focused military and law enforcement operations continue without let up with the objective of rescuing the hostages and holding their captors accountable for all their crimes," WESMINCOM spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said.

His pronouncement came in wake of the June 13 ransom deadline of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) for the three remaining Samal Island hostages.

The bandits earlier threatened to behead one of the captives if their PHP600 million ransom demands were not paid.

Canadian Robert Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingtad and Filipina Marites Flor, Hall's girlfriend, were snatched by the ASG at a posh resort in Samal Island last Sept. 21.

The ASG beheaded John Ridsel last April 25 after the Philippine and Canadian governments refused to pay his PHP300 million ransom.
