The Philippine Air Force (PAF) held its annual symposium to spearhead the celebration of its 69th Anniversary at the Marriot Grand Ballroom with the theme, “Breaking Barriers, Realizing Aspirations toward a Jointly Engaged Transforming Force for Greater Peace and Security”.

The symposium was said to address the complex security challenges that are arising at the West Philippine Sea. Such problems are not only faced by the PAF but by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in general.

Gathering spectators from various sectors, the symposium was attended by senior leaders, military officials, members of the academe and other groups that are directly connected to the country’s security and development. Aside from local officials, foreign military officials even from China were also invited.

As a key speaker and guest of honor of the symposium, Honorable Justice Antonio Carpio, Senior Associate Justice of Supreme Court of the Philippines, discussed various topics such as Rule of Law, Regional Security, and the West Philippine Sea itself.

Lieutenant General Yoshinari Marumo, Vice Chief of Staff of Japan Air Self-defense Force (JADSF), on the other hand, shared his experiences in developing air defense architecture.

Lastly, Major General Michael Compton, Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of Pacific Air Forces, elaborated on the role of airpower in ensuring freedom of navigation in the open seas.

The annual Air Force Symposium also showcased the organization’s new and improved capabilities with both displays of actual and mock equipment. They also used the gathering as a platform to engage foreign and local defense leaders on the diverse topics regarding airpower.
