Abu Sayyaf kills Canadian hostage

From MindaNews (Jun 13): Abu Sayyaf kills Canadian hostage

A Canadian who was held hostage by the bandit group Abu Sayyaf has been killed in Sulu on Monday, media reports say.

Robert Hall, who was kidnapped in September along with three others, was killed after the 3:00 p.m. deadline for the payment of a P600-million ransom expired, Philippine security sources told foreign and local news organizations.

Kidnapped with Hall from a resort in Samal Island were his Filipina partner Marites Flor, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, and Canadian John Ridsdel.

They were brought to Sulu, and Ridsdel, a former mining executive, was beheaded on April 25 after a ransom deadline lapsed.

The Philippine and Canadian governments have declared they won’t give in to the ransom demand.
