The New People's Army yesterday claimed responsibility for
the assassination of an alleged campaign leader of a mayoralty bet in Moises
Padilla, Negros Occidental, on May 1.
Magdaleno “Nonong” Grande, 54, elder brother of Moises
Padilla councilor-candidate Agustin Grande, was shot on the head outside a
cockpit in Brgy. Inolingan, Moises Padilla.
The NPA carried out the liquidation of Grande based on a
decision of their revolutionary court, Ka Ann Jacinto, deputy spokesperson of
the Leonardo Panaligan Command, told the DAILY STAR.
The NPA alleged that Magdaleno had served as an informant of
the Armed Forces of the Philippines
against the rebel movement. He was also linked to alleged extortion, holdups,
killing, and beatings of farmers, which sources close to the victim denied.
