In line with its efforts to ensure that the coming May
elections will be transparent and peaceful, the Lucena-based Southern Luzon
Command (SOLCOM) on Tuesday held its "Bike for SAFE 2016".
An estimated 2,000 bikers participated in the activity held
in selected cities and municipalities in Regions lV-A, lV-B and V.
SOLCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman said the activity
aims to send their message of commitment for a safe and fair elections.
Aside from SOLCOM and its subordinate units, other
participants include the Philippine National Police, Commission on Elections,
Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, Parish
Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and other non-government organizations.
It was simulteneously conducted in Infanta, Quezon;
Binangonan and Tanay, Rizal; Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; Lucena City and
Calauag of Quezon; Labo and Daet of Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay ;
Virac, Catanduanes and Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.
SOLCOM head Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya said they will strictly
abide to the non-partisan stand of the organization.
By doing so, the unit helps maintain the sanctity of the
ballots, votes and the entire election process.
"We just want to show the people that we are ready for
the elections. We just want it to be peaceful," he added.
