Unprovoked attacks by suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels has so far resulted in the death of 49 unarmed persons in the Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN regions.

SOCSKSARGEN refers to South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos.

This is from Jan. 1 to May 2 this year, said 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief Capt. Rhyan Batchar.

The figure includes 28 civilians, 12 CAFGU Active Auxilliaries (CAAs), five soldiers and four policemen.

The 49 victims were killed in 45 incidents, 23 of which happened in Compostela Valley Province; 10 in Davao del Norte; two each in Davao del Sur, South Cotabato, Sarangani Province, Bukidnon and Davao City; and one each in North Cotabato and Davao Oriental.

Batchar said all 10th Infantry Division personnel were advice to heighten their personal security as the NPAs started targeting unarmed military operatives.
