Joint police, anti-narcotics agents and the military arrested Tuesday eight persons engaged in illegal drug operation in Maguindanao.

Armed with search warrants, elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), elements of 7th Infantry Battalion and local police, government agents raided several houses in Barangay Bulit, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao Tuesday afternoon.

The law enforcers were after a certain Tarhata who operates an illegal drug den in the village.

PDEA, in a statement, said unidentified armed men opened fire on government forces, triggering a 45-minute firefight. Nobody was hurt in the exchange of bullets.

Elements of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) helped the government forces in arresting eight suspects.

PDEA identified the suspects as Tarhata Sambutuan, 27; Sobbo Sandalan, 21; Dotin Edsrael, 40; and Jinson Ampatuan, 54, all residents of Barangay Bulit.

Also arrested were Ali Anta, 30, of Barangay Malabuwaya, Datu Piang, Maguindanao, Honeyboy Radtudan, 20 of Kabacan, North Cotabato, Diyal Kasim, 30 of Barangay Talapas, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao, and Allan Lumna, 29 of Barangay Poblacion, Matalam, North Cotabato.

The raiding team seized 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu with a street market value of PHP110,000, a cal. 45 with magazine and cal. 40 pistol and other illegal drug paraphernalia.

All the suspects are now detained at PDEA office in Cotabato City while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being prepared against them.
