NPA releases 2 cops in Bukidnon

From the Philippine News Agency (May 4): NPA releases 2 cops in Bukidnon

The New People’s Army (NPA) has released the two other remaining police captives to the local government of Bukidnon, a police report reaching here said Wednesday.

The Provincial Police Office in Bukidnon identified the two police officers as Senior Police Officer 2 Warren Coñales and Police Officer 3 Edwin Castor. The police officers were held captive in an NPA checkpoint in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon last April 3.

Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria Zubiri fetched the two police officers during a turn-over ceremony in the remote village of Bulonay in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Zubiri, together with Bishop Felixberto Calang, of the Igleisa Filipina Independiente (IFI) and head of the Third Party Facilitator, immediately brought the two police officers to the Bukidnon Provincial Police Office for medical examination and custodial debriefing.

At around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, the NPA earlier released Senior Police Officer 4 Rene Rombo during a turnover in the remote village of Banglay in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental.

The police officers were captured when the communist group mounted a coordinated road blockade in some areas in the Caraga Region and Northern Mindanao last April 3.

Two other government troopers identified as PFCs Glenn Austria, of Patag, Cagayan De Oro City and Devin Tawide, of Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur, all of the army’s 23rd Infantry Battalion, remained in the custody of the NPA.

Austria and Tawide were captured in an NPA roadblock in Buenavista, Agusan Del Norte, on April 3.
