From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 29): Eastern Visayas Army welcomes new breed of soldiers

The Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division (8th ID) has welcomed 172 new soldiers who just completed the training on Monday.

Maj. Gen. Jet B. Velarmino, 8th ID commander spearheaded the closing ceremony of the Philippine Army Candidate Soldier Course Class 395-15 and symbolic entrustment of firearms at the 8th ID grandstand.

Velarmino also led the distribution of certificates, awarding of individual achievements and distribution of rosaries.

The top three candidate soldiers are Virgil Magabo with a grade of 93.75 percent, Laurence Paul Caras attaining 91.7 percent grade, and Jayson Castillo having 91.7 percent grade. Castillo received the Bernardo Carpio Award for topping the non-academic subjects.

The new soldiers had made exemplary performance on the six months of rigorous training conducted by the 8th ID training school at the 801st Infantry Brigade stationed in Bagacay village in Hinabangan, Samar.

Velarmino is proud of the newly enlisted privates for hurdling the Basic Military Training and further challenges them to live up with the highest standards of competency, discipline and core values of the Philippine Army.

“As a professional and a transformed soldier, together let us all uphold and protect our citizens right with respect to human dignity and diversity, ready to serve our country and people,” Velarmino added.
