From GMA News (Mar 29): 3 killed, one injured in Bukidnon explosion

Three minors were killed while another was wounded in an ammunition explosion in Bukidnon province in Northern Mindanao on Good Friday, the Philippine Information Agency reported.

Capt. Lorenzo B Siobal Jr, the army’s 403rd Brigade information officer, reported that the explosion occurred around 1p.m. at at Pud-ong Hill, Sitio Kibaritan, Barangay Malinao, Kalilangan town.

The fatalities were identified as Delmar Copresos, 15, and his brothers 11-year-old brother Regie and 13-year-old Roldmar.

Siobal reported that Roldmar was rushed to the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Loyd P. Nanggaska, 13, managed to run but was injured and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to initial reports, the boys went inside the military reservation and training area in Pud-ong Hill, Camp Kibaritan which is ‘off-limits’ to civilians.

They found a 90mm Recoilless Rifle ammunition, which they that they fiddled with and exploded.

Lt. Col. Peter Edwin R. Navarro, commanding officer of 1st Special Forces Battalion said, the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division through the 403rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade has extended necessary assistance to the families of the victims.

“We are supporting the investigation being conducted by the local police and will cooperate in any way deemed necessary. Whatever is the result of police’s investigation, the 4ID will abide by it," he said.

"We are now conducting [a] joint investigation in coordination with the Municipal Police Station of Kalilangan to determine the facts of the incident. We will also enhance security measures in order to prevent the same incident from happening again in the future,” he added.

Navarro also said that the army’s Land Warfare Center, Training and Doctrine Command and Division Training School (DTS) of the 4th Infantry Division earlier held dialogues and information campaign among the residents informing them that the area is off limits to civilians. The site serves as impact zone for firing weapons, including mortars and 90RR weapons.
