The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday upgraded its
alert status in line with the 47th founding anniversary of the New People's
Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said that
all units are hereby on full alert status effective 6:00 a.m. on Monday.
”All unit commanders are directed to continue to securing
all vital installations, economic key points as well as places of convergence
and ensure high state of operational operational readiness to to deter CPP and
other threat group plans and activities,” Mayor told the Philippines News
Agency (PNA).
"Further, precautionary measures are to be undertaken
during troop movements and police responses to calls for police assistance,
particularly in CPP and threat group-affected areas," he added.
Founded on March 29, 1969, the NPA is known to stage hostile
actions during similar occasions, including infiltration and agitation in mass
actions, sabotage of public assemblies, and armed attacks on isolated
government posts and vital installations in the countryside.
