From the Philippine New Agency (Mar 29): 6th ID to dispose 'unserviceable' high explosives

The Army's 6th Infantry Division disposed today some 300 kilos of explosives, composed of mortars and other high explosive cartridge in Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Capt. Joan Petinglay, speaking for the 6th ID, said the disposal was carried out by Army bomb disposal units which started at 8 a.m.

"Informing the civilian populace in Cotabato City and Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao not to panic if they hear loud explosions," Petinglay said.

The explosives were either recovered during military operation against lawless elements and those owned by the government that are no longer serviceable.

Few years ago, a stockpile of high explosive devices in the 6th ID ordnance depot accidentally went off one day. The incident was, per Army investigation, was triggered by an accidental explosion due to extreme heat.

No one was reported injured in that incident.

Petinglay said safety measures are in place to prevent accident that could claim lives and properties.
