An Army Corporal was killed and beheaded by the terrorist group of the Maute brothers in Lanao del Sur.
Corporal Engel Cubillas was beheaded February 24 at Butig town in Lanao del Sur, according to Salute to the Fallen.
Meanwhile, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed the death of 24, out of 42 reported, members of the said terrorist group.
AFP spokesman Brigadier General Restituto Padilla said the number of dead terrorists could still rise as validation efforts are still ongoing. AFP said at least six were killed in the side of government forces.
The military also said that clearing operations is ongoing after a week-long battle. “Troops conducted clearing operations at their designated sectors and moved forward for the final assault on the main objective which was cleared on around 4:20 p.m. [Sunday],” Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan.
“Troops continue to scour the barangay area and clear it from booby traps and IEDs,” Tan added.
Last February 23, Tan reported the death of Omar Maute, the head of the local terrorist organization, who spearheaded the attack on the detachment of the an Infantry Battalion in Butig, Lanao Del Sur last February 20.
