Kabacan, North Cotabato – Hundreds of youth, students, and professionals from University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Kabacan, North Cotabato participated in an Islamic Symposium and Peace Advocacy sponsored and organized by the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) and Minsupala Islamic Youth Movement (MIYM) on February 26, 2016 at Barangay Plang, Kabacan, North Cotabato.
Dr. Norodin Salam of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission-JICA Socio-Economic Office (BTC-JICA) discussed the 17-year long peace process between the Bangsamoro people and the Government of the Philippines that resulted in the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) on March 27, 2014.
“It is very important for every Bangsamoro especially the young ones to know the root cause of the Mindanao conflict so that they can easily understand the essence of the peace process,” Salam said.
“All presidential aspirants see that poverty and economic issues as the root causes of the conflict, which is perfectly not, this is purely a political injustice,” he also said.” “Only the current government has made a difference”, Salam added.
For his part, Engr. Muhajirin Ali, member of the MILF Peace Panel Secretariat, gave updates on the status of the GPH-MILF peace process.
“The implementation of the CAB is the bottom line and the focus of the Government and the MILF,” Engr. Ali said.
“Amidst the failure of 16th Philippine Congress to pass the BBL, the MILF stands to uphold its commitment towards the path of the peace process and preserve the gains of almost 2-decades peace negotiations.
