From Update.Ph (Feb 28): Japan leasing Philippines with TC-90 aircraft – report

The Japanese government will be leasing the Philippine with Maritime Self-Defense Force TC-90 aircraft to aide the country’s surveillance capabilities in West Philippine Sea, Japanese news agency Kyodo reports.

According to the report, Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani will be visiting Philippines on April to sign the agreement on lease of aircraft. The Japanese government will provide the aircraft at a minimal cost for purpose of legality.

This is after Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Japanese Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa formally signed the Agreement Concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology today afternoon.

The agreement will provide framework for Japan to transfer defense equipment and technology to the Philippines.

The Philippines is the first ASEAN country with which Japan has concluded such agreement.

Both sides are optimistic that tangible cooperation would be drawn up in accordance with the said agreement.
