Two NGCP towers bombed on Christmas eve

From ABS-CBN (Dec 25): Two NGCP towers bombed on Christmas eve

Two towers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) were bombed on Thursday evening.

NGCP said its Tower 25, located in Barangay Gandamatu, Ramain, Lanao del Sur, was toppled by unknown lawless elements.

Fifteen minutes later, NGCP's Tower 95 in Barangay Aroman, Carmen, North Cotabato was also bombed. The second tower was damaged but not toppled.

NGCP said the two towers were the 14th and 15th to be attacked this year.

''The toppling of Tower 25 led to the isolation of government-owned generating facilities, namely the Agus 1 and 2 Hydro Electric Plants. As a result, 58MW was lost from the grid, aggravating the existing power shortage in Mindanao,'' the NGCP said.

''Restoration efforts will commence as soon as the area is secured. NGCP is calling on the public to report any suspicious activities at or around its facilities, to prevent further bombing-related power interruptions."
