Sibunag gets P40-M Kalahi-CIDSS projects

From the Philippine Information Agency (Dec 24): Sibunag gets P40-M Kalahi-CIDSS projects

ILOILO CITY—The town of Sibunag in Guimaras is recipient of a P35-million farm-to-market roads sub projects, with its local counterpart of P5-million.

These projects, according to Mayor Luben Vilches, are implemented through the Kapit-bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Vilches said that this is the first time for that a local government is implementing a project with such amount for Kalahi-CIDSS.

Maricar Calubiran, social marketing officer for the program, said Sibunag is recipient of the Kalahi-CIDSS Millennium Challenge Corporation Incentive Grant as Best KC-MCC Implementer for 2015.

Kalahi-CIDSS started in Sibunag in 2012 under the MCC, and consistently delivered the project conditionality and commitments on time, according to Calubiran.

These commitments include complete Municipal Area Coordinating Team, Local Cash Counterpart and In-kind Counterpart, which it was able to deliver despite its being a 4th class municipality with minimal Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

“The LGU was able to do this because of the committed leadership of Mayor Vilches.

Mayor Viclhes, who is an advocate of community-driven development, personally monitored the projects and had rallied the community to give their full support.

“Kalahi-CIDSS projects are sure win investments, not only in terms of projects but in people participation,” Vilches said.

He said that the FMR projects will boost the town’s agriculture- the marketing of products especially.

“Sibunag is Guimaras’ food basket,” Vilches said, adding that for a town like Sibunag, with limited resources, Kalahi-CIDSS projects are a big help.

“By sharing leadership and burden with the people, the work becomes light and the services become effective,” Vilches said.
