President Benigno S. Aquino III will lead the national
commemoration of the 119th death anniversary and martyrdom of the country’s
national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, on Wednesday (December 30).
In a statement, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said
President Aquino would lead the flag-raising ceremony in honor of Rizal at the Luneta Park
in Manila
“On Wednesday, for the last time during his term, President
Aquino will lead the flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the death anniversary
of our national hero, Jose Rizal,” he said.
Lacierda said President Aquino, over the course of his
administration, has never missed the ceremony.
“This year, he will continue his tradition of recognizing
Rizal's achievements, which serve as inspiration to all Filipinos to aspire for
excellence, driven by love for country,” he added.
December 30 has been declared by the national government as
a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Rizal Day.
