2 soldiers ambushed

From Tempo (Dec 27): 2 soldiers ambushed

Suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group killed a soldier and wounded his colleague in an ambush in Jolo, Sulu on Christmas Day.

A military report reaching this city identified the slain soldier as Corporal Eduardo Villana and the wounded as Private Bryan Sanoy of the 501st Philippine Army Brigade in Sulu.

The two soldiers were on board a motorcycle towards Jolo from Bud Datu, Barangay Tagbak, Indanan, Sulu when they were ambushed at around 9:30 a.m. in Barangay Asturias by an undetermined number of ASG members using a .45 caliber pistol.

Sanoy died on the spot. Villana managed to escape the ambush and was taken to a military hospital. Sanoy’s remains were taken to the Integrated Provincial Health Office in Jolo.
