Lawless elements bombed another transmission tower in Lanao
del Sur on Monday morning, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines
(NGCP) said.
In an advisory, the NGCP said that the unidentified suspect
bombed the NGCP Tower No. 4 of Balo-i Agus 2138- KiloVolt Line in Nangka,
Baloi, Lanao del Sur.
Beth Ladaga, the NGCP spokesperson, said that luckily, the
tower was not toppled down and engineers are going to make repairs immediately
after the law enforcers secure the area.
She said that the bombing was the fourth to occur since Dec.
24 this year after the bombing of the transmission towers in Ramain, Lanao del
Sur and Cotabato last Dec. 26.
Ladaga said the NGCP has expressed fears of continued power
interruptions in Mindanao unless something is
done to secure the transmission towers on the island.
She said the NGCP has received reports that eight more
transmission towers would be bombed and toppled down in the coming days.
“The NGCP is appealing to the military and the local
government units (LGUs) to assist in securing and resolving the security issues
involving the transmission towers in Mindanao ,”
Ladaga said.
She noted that most of the problems boiled down to the
owners of the lots who refused to allow NGCP engineers to enter their areas to
conduct maintenance of transmission towers located in their lots.
According to Ladaga, lot owners have purposely planted trees
below the transmission lines in their lots and claim exuberant payment for
every tree that would be cleared along the transmission lines.
