The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing the release of
Php 63.5 million for conflict affected areas in Northern
Mindanao next year.
Ulysses P. Ortega, the DA’s regional spokesperson, said on
Friday that the program falls under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA)
project of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).
He said that the DA, being the implementing agency of the
PAMANA, supervises the implementation of the projects that consist mostly of
livelihood and construction of farm-to-market-roads in conflict areas.
Ortega said it is the OPAPP that identifies the conflict
areas and also make the proposed plans and the release of the fund for the
project while the DA is only an implementing agency.
As of December 11, 2015, the OPAPP has already identified
157 projects in strife torn areas in the region, 23 has been implemented, 94
on-going, while 40 other projects have yet to start.
Ortega said that these projects are mostly located in the
communities of the provinces of Lanao Del Norte and Bukidnon, all form part of
the Northern Mindanao region.
“The strengthening of economic activities in conflict communities
would impact on the on-going peace initiatives in these areas,” Ortega said.
