From the Philippine Information Agency (Dec 11): Outreach program serves upland Abra community
TUBO, Abra – Residents of this upland town gladly welcomed agencies and non-government organization who conducted inter-agency outreach program in Poblacion, Tubo last December 4.
Governor Eustaquio P. Bersamin led the contingent composed of representatives from the Provincial Health Office, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and Abra Cadua Group.
The agencies provided medical and dental services, livelihood assistance, seeds and livestock dispersal, animal vaccination and deworming, blood-typing and kilatis-kutis, free massage, haircut, manicure and pedicure, as well as gift giving and blanket distribution by Abra Cadua.
Bersamin said they chose Tubo for the outreach program because the place embodies a very loving and tranquil community. He commended Tubo for maintaining zero crime rate over the years. He said that respect for life, love for peace and respect for the elders and indigenous peace-making system like ‘Dap-ay’ contributed to peace in Tubo.
Dap-ay, he said is a very good example of peace-making system wherein feuds are settled with the “panglakayen” or elders.
The governor announced that P2 million will be allotted from the provincial government funds to augment for the road construction project of Tubo and P5M for the construction of farm-to-market roads.
Not only peace will be known in Tubo but with the roads nearing completion, development will come as well, said Bersamin.
Mayor Guilbert Ballangan welcomed and thanked Governor Bersamin and all the visitors who have travelled high terrains to deliver goods and services and spread peace in their place.
The activity was part of the Abra Week for Peace 2015 celebration.
