A cock farm in La Castellana, Negros Occidental was
ransacked Thursday night by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, who also abducted a
member of a breakaway rebel group during the raid.
The cock farm, located in Hacienda Jamandre, Barangay
Robles, is owned by Rene Europa alias Maco, a leader of the Revolutionary
Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB), which has signed peace
agreement with the national government.
Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the Negros
Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Friday about 50 NPA members entered
the property of Europa, who evaded the abduction.
His fellow RPA-ABB member Cirilo Bagnuran, however, is now
in the custody of the NPA.
Some of the rebels were Cebuano-speaking, Nacion said.
Meanwhile, Col. Francisco Delfin, commander of the Army’s
303rd Infantry Brigade, said they estimated only 18 armed men were involved in
the raid.
Delfin said the NPA rebels took three high-powered rifles,
including one attached to an M203 grenade launcher, a sub machine gun, and a
short firearm.
He confirmed that Bagnuran was indeed abducted, after he and
Europa fought the NPA attackers.
Bullet shells of M16 and AK 47 assault rifles, and four
spent casings of M203 grenade launcher were recovered.
Delfin said that a V-150 armed personnel carrier is backing
up the combined Army and police troopers, who are pursuing the NPA rebels.
