From ABS-CBN (Nov 28): Alleged Abu Sayyaf member arrested for death of 2 US soldiers
An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested inside the wharf in Jolo, Sulu Friday afternoon, the military said.
Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, commander of Joint Task Group Sulu, identified the alleged bandit as Saddam Jailani, who has a standing arrest warrant for multiple murder and frustrated murder issued by 7th Regional Trial Court Judge Alexander Acosta in Cebu City.
Arrojado said Jailani was allegedly involved in the road side bombing near a military detachment in Indanan, Sulu in 2009, killing two US servicemen and a soldier of the Philippine Marines. Two other Filipino soldiers were wounded in the attack.
Jailani has been an active member of the ASG, whose tasks include providing logistical needs to the group, Arrojado added.
The Regional Chief of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Western Mindanao, Senior Superintendent John Guyguyun said Jailani was also involved in other bombing incidents in Mindanao.
He is a known follower of ASG sub-commander Alhabsy Misaya, who was responsible in kidnapping the Malaysian couple, Thien Nyuk Fun and Bernard Then Fen in a restaurant in Sandakan, Malaysia in May 14, 2015, Guyguyun said.
Fun was released November 8 after allegedly paying a multimillion-peso ransom to the Abu Sayyaf Group.
More than a week after, the bandits executed Then after his family failed to meet the demands of the group.
Jailani was brought to Zamboanga City and will be placed under the custody of CIDG Region 9.
