NPAs torched 5 construction equipment in Davao City

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 22): NPAs torched 5 construction equipment in Davao City

Five units of heavy construction equipment were torched by New People's Army (NPA) fighters in Baguio District, Davao City Wednesday night.

The destroyed equipment was owned by ALGON Engineering Construction Corp.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said that the first attack took place at 11:45 p.m.

It was made by an estimated 10 rebels aboard four motorcycles.

All 10 NPAs are members of Guerilla Front 54 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.

The rebels burned one compactor and one grader along the National Highway at Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District, Davao City. Two other construction equipment were severely damaged.

The second incident took place at Sitio Lower Tamugan, Barangay Tamugan, Marilog, Davao City, where the NPAs attempted to burn a backhoe, compactor and grader around 12 midnight.

Residents living nearby were awakened by the commotion and immediately responded which forced the culprits to flee.

The residents then helped put out the fire from the equipment.

The damaged equipment were estimated to cost Php8 million.

"This incident showed that the NPA is anti-development and anti-people. These equipment were being used to construct roads intended to lessen the burden of the farmers and the people in transporting their farm products and other materials to and fro their farms to the markets," 10th Infantry Division head Major Gen. Rafael Valencia said.
