CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City (DWDD) - Three (3) NPAs (body counts) were killed while two soldiers were wounded in an encounter at 5:40 a.m. today (Oct 21) in the coastal part of Brgy Tinago, Juban, Sorsogon by troops of the 31st Infantry Battalion against 15 NPAs.
The 25-minute firefight also resulted to the recovery of two (2) AK50 rifles, one cal.45 pistol, two (2) laptops and various IT equipment.
The two wounded soldiers were hit by IED shrapnels. They were brought to Sorsogon Doctors Hospital for treatment and are now on stable condition. Their names are presently withheld for security reasons.
903rd Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Cesar M. Idio deployed other troops for pursuit operations. K9 trackers are also utilized to locate the rebels.
This is the second major encounter in Southern Luzon Command AOR this October.
Last Oct 14, 2015, the 730th Combat Group of the Philippine Air Force encountered the NPAs in Nasugbu, Batangas which resulted to five (5) NPAs killed and recovery of four (4) high powered firearms. “This is the result of our intensified combat operations targetting the remnants or those who opt to remain with the armed group,” said Southern Luzon Command Chief Lieutenant General Ricardo R. Visaya.
He said that SOLCOM encourages them to go down from the mountains and live happily with ther families rather than being always on the run in the mountains and, worst, getting killed during encounters with authorities because SOLCOM will not stop its intensified operations until all NPAs in the region are neutralized.
