From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 22): Navy reservists first to respond in 'Lando' relief efforts

Navy reservists were literally the first group of responders helping displaced families and communities devastated by Typhoon "Lando" in Northern Luzon.

Philippine Navy (PN) public affairs office chief Cmdr. Lued Lincuna said Naval Reserve Center Northern Luzon, which consists of marines, sailors, and reservists were immediately mobilized for "Lando" relief efforts.

The unit was placed under Regional Disaster Response Task Group 1 and in coordination with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Pangasinan and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Dagupan City, the disaster response teams conducted humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations (HADR) to the affected families in the City of Dagupan, Municipality of San Fabian and Barangays of Bugallon, Pangasinan namely Cabayaoasan, Socony and Poblacion.

For two days of relief operations, Navy personnel and reservists continuously scoured the affected municipalities to evacuate and provide necessary assistance to the victims.

The effort and gallantry of the regular force and the reserve force resulted to the rescue and evacuation of 119 families/624 individuals.

Lincuna said reservists had been very valuable to the PN as force multipliers especially in responding to calamities and disasters.
