IDB Chairman Pulat and delegation pay courtesy call to MILF leadership

Former Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mustafa Pulat, now Chairman of the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) during his delegation’s meeting with leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao on October 28, enthusiastically said that when he was offered the new assignment, he gladly accepted it with honor.

He came to MILF Administrative Headquarters along with other IDB members William Hovland, IDB Chief of Staff; Major Muhammad Aiman Syazwi Bin Haji Abdul Rahim-Member; Jan Arild Steinvik- Validation Monitoring Assistance Team Shift Leader; Major Malik Poransing; Von Al Haq, member and some IDB Staff.

They were gladly received by MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and members of   the MILF Central Committee.

“The international community is committed to the success of peace process. We are here to do our utmost best to help facilitate the job (decommissioning), assist in the process, finally reaching its end goal—which is long term, sustainable peace and prosperity in this part of the Philippines. Ready to do what is necessary, and with your (MILF) guidance and advice, we can assist you better”, were the former ambassador’s words during their meeting with the MILF leaders.

In return, Chairman Al Haj Murad said, “As always, we are assuring our utmost cooperation with the IDB as the role of the IDB is very important in the Normalization process”.

Chairman Al Haj Murad explained how the political process and normalization should be complimentary, parallel and commensurate as it is reflected in the road map. Challenges facing the peace process were also laid down in the overview of the situation by the MILF Chairman to the IDB delegation.

Two representatives from Norway in the IDB, Mr. William Hovland and Mr. Jan Arild Steinvik were also part of the delegation. Both expressed their sincere participation in the peace process.

They are glad for the good relationship, the trust and confidence afforded to them.

Brunei Darussalam Representative Major Muhammad Aiman Syazwi Bin Haji Abdul Rahim was also with the group.

Both the IDB and the MILF Leadership believe that strong democracy has to be built and a peaceful resolution to the Mindanao problem is needed.

In conclusion of  first-ever meeting with MILF leaders,  IDB Chairman Pulat, signifies IDB’s willingness to be prepared as they can, for they know that once the best scenario comes- BBL passage done, and so is ratification favoured by constituents,  IDB has to be quick in all its preparations for decommissioning.

On behalf of the Central Committee, Chairman Al Haj Murad expressed his profound gratitude to the IDB and to the international community for their continuing support to the peace process.
