The 903rd Infantry Brigade on Wednesday morning will have its soft blessing on its new headquarters in preparation for its occupancy in Barangay San Rafael, this town. This is in preparation for its occupancy by Army troops.

However, still at the construction stage early this year, the camp became controversial when a resolution of naming the camp after the late father of Senator Chiz Escudero was filed at town municipal council.

The idea was opposed by concerned sectors that prefer naming of the camp after a local hero, Estaquio Granadillos, Jr. who lead the guerrillas and fought the Japanese during World War II.

The new headquarters situated in a 2-hectare military reservation was constructed by DPWH Sorsogon 1st Engineering Office with a budget cost of P24,740,000.00 sourced from General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2015. The construction started in January this year.

Expected guests to arrive are Senator Chiz Escudero for the ribbon cutting, message by Congresswoman Evie Escudero.

Also coming is the Philippine Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Eduardo M. Ano and DPWH regional director Medel Navarro.

Last March, Sorsogon’s civil society had opposed renaming the newly-rehabilitated Sorsogon National High School after the Senator’s father, Dr. Salvador H. Escudero III, including a similar move to name the planned Army camp.
