Filipina, 3 foreigners abducted in Samal island

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer (Sep 22): Filipina, 3 foreigners abducted in Samal island

(Updated) Four persons—three of them foreigners—were snatched by armed men in a resort in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte on Monday evening.

Senior Supt Aaron Aquino, deputy regional director for operations of the Philippine National Police Region 11, said around three unidentified armed men stormed the Ocean View Resort at around 11:41 p.m. and snatched two foreign guests and the resort’s owner, along with a still unidentified Filipino woman.

Aquino identified two of the victims as Canadian John Ridsdel and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, the owner of Ocean’s view.

Capt. Alberto Caber, the regional military spokesperson, identified the third victim as Robert Hall, also a Canadian national.

Senior Supt. Samuel Gadingan, Davao del Norte police chief, said the Filipino woman remains unidentified.

Aquino said the suspects fled with the victims aboard a speedboat and was last reported heading towards Pantukan in Compostela Valley.

He said the armed men overpowered the resort’s security guards, which was why they were not able to put up a fight.

“There was no shootout with the security guards. They were overpowered,” Aquino said.

Local authorities are presently conducting pursuit operations against perpetrators, he said.
