GOVERNMENT forces have recovered high-powered firearms, explosive and bomb-making materials following a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Misamis Oriental, the military reported Thursday.

Colonel Jesse Alvarez, Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade commander, said the clash ensued around 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sitio Alaja in the village of Aposkahoy, Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

Alvarez said the troops from the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion were tracking down the NPA rebels when the clash broke out.

He said the NPA rebels numbering to around 30 fighters led by a certain Ka Budo fled after they were outmaneuvered by the troops.

The troops recovered at the clash site an M-16 Armalite rifle, a Carbine rifle, one improvised bomb, 14 blasting caps, two mobile phones, two radio transceivers, 20 backpacks, a solar panel, linked ammunition for K3 machinegun, a voter’s identification card, and, subversive documents.

Alvarez said the troops continue to track down the fleeing NPA rebels, who were believed to have suffered casualties.
