Troopers from the 4th Infantry Division captured a New
People's Army (NPA) arms cache during an hour-long firefight in Sitio Ilaja,
Barangay Aposkahoy, Claveria town, Misamis Oriental Wednesday.
Captured were an M-16 automatic rifle, one carbine, one
unexploded improvised explosive device, 14 blasting caps; two cellular phones,
two ICOM radios, 20 backpacks, a solar panel; linked ammunition for K-3
machinegun; a voter’s ID; and subversive documents.
Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs
office chief, said the items were seized by soldiers from the 58th Infantry
Battalion during an encounter with an estimated 30 rebel fighters led by one
"Budo" around 10 a.m.
The troops were on security patrol during that time.
Civilians in the area reported that the killed and wounded
NPA members were carried by their companions during their retreat.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this posting.
