From ABS-CBN (Aug 18): Peasant leader shot dead in N. Cotabato
A peasant leader was shot dead in Barangay Naje in Arakan Valley town of North Cotabato Tuesday morning.
The victim was identified as one Joel Gulmatico, a leader of Arakan Peasant Progressive Organization or APPO, under the umbrella organization of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas.
According to a report from North Cotabato Provincial Police, the victim was riding a motorcycle when he was shot by still unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds on his body that caused his instantaneous death.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the killing of the progressive group leader.
