As the military stepped up its anti-insurgency campaign in
the countryside, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) announced 187 New People's
Army (NPA) rebels voluntarily surrendered to its units from Jan. 1 to Aug. 10
this year.
Capt. Alberto Caber, EMC public affairs office chief, said
in a statement on Tuesday the primary reason of the rebel returnees in leaving
the insurgency movement is to live peacefully with their loved ones.
The former rebels are now integrated to society with the
help of the government's Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP), Caber
said.
Through CLIP, they received livelihood and appropriate
training assistance from the government.
