All the 11 fishermen from Barangay Cato, Infanta who were reported missing early today (Monday) are alive after they were rescued by a passing U.S. Navy ship.

This was contained in a flash report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management l (PDRRMO) at 11 a.m. today which was related to PNA by the Provincial Information Office (PIO).

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported to the PDRRMO that the fishermen will be brought to Subic, Zambales.

Rescued were Fernando Rebuta, 52; Eddie Buenbenida, 52; Charlie Dumas, 31; Daniel Canawa, 32; Andy Lebios, 62; Wilson Etac, 51; Armando Polo, 53; Jerry Olivero, 18; Elorde Encarguez, 27; Virgel Encarguez and Ariel Balaguit.

They were fishing some 82 nautical miles off Pangasinan near the disputed Scarborough Shoal when their boats capsized and sank.

Their boat was already listing when they called up the police station in Infanta, Pangasinan which relayed the same to PDRRMO and Philippine Coat Guard.

A report said the fishermen ignored gale warning by local authorities when they left shore last Wednesday, July 15 at the height of heavy monsoon rains.
