Three unarmed militiamen were killed after New People's Army
(NPA) bandits attacked their patrol base in Barangay Hindangon, Gingoog City Sunday night.
The attack took place 8 p.m.. The fighting lasted for 40
minutes.
This despite the 10 days suspension of military offensive
requested by the rebels as one of the conditions for the release of the soldier
they abducted in Barangay Alagatan, also in Gingoog City, last July 11.
"That’s the reason why we cannot trust these criminals.
How can the government consider their demand if they keep on showing
insincerity on their actions," 4th Infantry Division commander Major Gen.
Oscar T. Lactao said.
Lt. Col. Jose Eriel M. Niembra, 58th Infantry Battalion
commander, immediately ordered the troops to stay alert and conduct perimeter
patrol and immediately notified the local PNP about the situation.
He then alerted all nearby patrol bases including some of
his operating troops to conduct blocking and pursuit operation against the fleeing
rebels.
Troops who were conducting clearing operation, recovered the
bodies of militiamen identified as: CAA Alfredo Sarno, CAA Perry Abao, and CAA
Pernan Abao, who were on off-duty status, wearing civilian clothes, and
unarmed.
The three, who were aboard their XRM motorcycle, were gunned
down by the rebels a short distance from their patrol base.
"Together with the PNP, we shall continue our rescue
operation in the area especially now that we are getting timely and relevant
information about the location of the NPA captors. We shall give justice to our
soldiers who were brutally killed by the NPA bandits and will not let these
criminals roam around and threaten the peace-loving people in this side of the
country," Lactao added.
