From Ang Malaya (Apr 5): Philippine Army bodybags one communist rebel

Troops from 31st Infantry Battalion under the 9th Infantry Division of Philippine Army had an encounter with New People’s Army in Barangay Tagas, Magallanes town in the Province of Sorsogon.

According to 31IB commander Lt. Col. Beerjenson Aquino his men conducted a security operation, April 2, against a group of at least ten communist rebels who were conducting extortion activities in the said location.

The encounter resulted to the killing of one communist rebel and wounding of Private First Class Richard G. Tablate.

PFC Tablate sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder, he was given first aide before he was brought to Sordoc Hospital in Sorsogon City.

Government forces recovered 2 M-16 rifles and five back packs.

Pursuit operation against fleeing rebels is ongoing. Meanwhile, 903rd Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Cesar Idio urges remaining rebels give up their armed struggle and avail of the government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
